The First APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 1) will take place in Palm Springs, California from February 14-28, 2023. U.S.-Support for Economic Growth in Asia (US-SEGA) will be participating and will implement a range of programs as part of the U.S. Host Year, including several workshops and policy dialogues. These workshops will cover a range of important topics, including coastal resilience, electronic labeling, supply chain connectivity, greenhouse gas emissions measurement, cloud adoption, and compostable bioplastics.
A brief workshop overview:
- The APEC Prioritization Workshop: Knowledge Sharing for Coastal Resilience will delve into economy-level issues related to the marine coastal environment, with a focus on critical strengths, needs, and gaps in the systemic, institutional, and resource capacities of APEC economies.
- The APEC Workshop on Electronic Labeling will aim to build capacity for APEC economies to adopt e-labeling practices and increase awareness of the benefits e-labeling offers.
- The Implementing APEC’s Framework for Supply Chain Connectivity workshop will provide an overarching picture of supply chain digitalization and encourage economic support for activities needed to make measurable progress towards greater supply chain connectivity.
- The APEC Standardization in Emerging Technologies related to Greenhouse Gas Emissions Measurement Workshop will bring together experts to share experiences and identify best practices in GHG measurement technologies.
- The APEC Workshop on Approaches to Cloud Adoption will highlight the benefits of cloud computing for businesses and governments and provide member economies with the opportunity to build awareness, understanding, and adaptation to cloud computing technologies.
- The Workshop on Promoting Sustainable Solutions for Compostable Bioplastics will aim to increase awareness and understanding of appropriate policy responses and regulatory approaches that can support the use of compostable bioplastics and foster trade in goods that use bioplastics.
